Spain’s most emblematic nightclub closes down
December 25, 2006
Just before Christmas, one of Spain’s most emblematic nightclubs closes down. Another victim of the new fight against leisure in Barcelona or a decision of the owners to give up a bad business? The nightclub La Paloma shuts its doors for good. After being shut down a few months ago for noise pollution the club representatives inform that the closing is definitive and that the government is to be blamed. “The club will never again open its doors” representatives of La Paloma told the press. They also insisted that “it has nothing to do with economic reasons but is completely related to the government”.
When will this end one asks? What is the government trying to do? Locations such as Barcelona attract visitors from all over the world and they go down in history. My friend just told me the other day, his grandfater used to go dancing there every week! Isn’t a club like this part of Barcelona culture? If there is a sound problem, is there not a better way to solve it?

I dont know what the Catalans are up to but this is getting out of hand!
